Babe Farms Veggies

Happy New Year



In the last month we have had a few of our customers out to tour Babé Farms. First up, we have Markon Cooperative. Markon and its members toured a few different farms in the area and we were lucky to have been on their list. Rain was in the forecast for the day and the roads were muddy, but we pressed on and were able to finish the tour before the rain came. A big thank you to Markon for putting together such a great group and making the trip!

Tony and his son Jose made the early drive from LA and were able to see how a variety of Babé Farms products are harvested. Jose even got to sample some cauliflower! Dry weather will return on Friday and will continue through Tuesday as a high pressure ridge develops over California and produces moderate to fresh (13 to 24 mph) Santa Lucia (offshore) winds.

Clear skies and much drier air filtering into the Central Coast Friday night will allow temperatures to decrease into the low 30's in the North County and mid to high 30's elsewhere by Saturday morning which is expected to be the coolest morning of the forecast period.

Stormy weather looks to return on Wednesday into the flowing weekend with gale-force southerly winds and periods of moderate to heavy rain.


#Cauliflower on Trend in 2017

With the new year ahead of us we are always looking for the latest food trends around the industry. In addition to Purple food and pickling veggies, it seems cauliflower is expected be on the rise this year. One fresh, new way to prepare cauliflower is roasting the head whole with olive oil and seasoning, and dressing with a variety of toppings. Check out the recipe below!

Roasted Cauliflower

Whole Roasted Cauliflower with Whipped Goat Cheese


Winter Greek SaladWinter Greek Salad


1 cup (7 ounces) feta, crumbled
½ cup dried cranberries
½ cup (6 ounces) kalamata olives
1 tablespoon capers
12 stalks (½ bunch) Tuscan kale, stems removed and greens roughly chopped
4 green onions, thinly sliced
2 medium (8 ounces) carrots, peeled and julienned
2 celery stalks, thinly sliced
1 medium (8 ounces) green apple, cored and thinly sliced
¼ (6 ounces) medium head red cabbage, finely shredded


In a large bowl, combine all of the salad ingredients and dress with red wine vinaigrette. Season with additional salt and pepper if necessary, then serve.
